Poltarrow’s six cottages are converted from traditional stone farm buildings and arranged around a central courtyard, each with its own private garden or terrace, seating and BBQ. The interiors were shaped by Libby – a trained chef and daughter of the owners, whose experience at The Ritz shows in every considered detail. They’re warm and genuinely homely, with wood burners and central heating for cooler months and plenty of natural light throughout. Each has its own character, but all are finished to a high standard and, crucially, they don’t feel like compromises.
Sleeping from 2 to 6, the cottages range from one to three bedrooms, making them suitable for a couple with a baby right through to a larger family group. Three cottages are entirely single storey – particularly useful for families with babies, toddlers or elderly relatives. All have free Wi-Fi, and a comprehensive list of baby and toddler equipment is available, including a full Nursery Box (blender, monitor, plates, cutlery, nightlights), wooden cot, high chair, stair gate, bed guard, blackout blind, hop-up step, booster seat, steriliser, pushchair, baby carrier and toddler carrier.
Pets are welcome in three of the six cottages – worth specifying when you enquire if you’re bringing a dog.
The Cottages at a Glance
Deerpark – sleeps 2
The smallest and most intimate cottage on the farm, ideal for a couple or a parent and child. Single storey and quietly positioned.
Red Deer – sleeps 4 plus cot
A well-proportioned two-bedroom cottage with room for a cot, making it a popular choice for families with a baby or toddler alongside an older child.
Fallow – sleeps 4 plus cot
Similar in layout to Red Deer, Fallow is another two-bedroom cottage with cot space — comfortable, well equipped and perfectly set up for young families.
Sika – sleeps 4 plus cot
Part of the same converted courtyard cluster, Sika sleeps four plus a cot across two bedrooms. Single storey, which makes it particularly practical with babies and toddlers.
Roebuck – sleeps 6 plus cot
One of the larger cottages, with three bedrooms and space for a cot. Roebuck works well for a family with three children, or two adults, two children and grandparents sharing.
Stag – sleeps 6 plus cot
The other three-bedroom option and equally well suited to larger family groups. Guests consistently praise the level of detail in Stag — everything you need is supplied, right down to the large baby supplies box.
