About Craigduckie Shepherds Huts

Oveview

Craigduckie is the perfect place for a digital detox - get back to basics with bug hunts, den building and simple pleasures. Enjoy stunning views across the loch and rolling countryside and make the most of the masses of space to explore. Craigduckie is only 45 minutes from Edinburgh, and even closer to The Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel for some great family days out.

The quirky huts marry simplicity with the luxury of glamping, with private indoor showers and toilets plus beautiful decor painted with Farrow & Ball colours, and bespoke shaker kitchens. Stay toasty inside and out with log burners and firepits.

Accommodation

The 2 huts  - Ewe View and Lamb Lookout  - are beautifully decorated and furnished, and each has a shower room, toilet, kitchen area with hob, oven and fridge. Logs are provided for the wood burning stove so you’ll be all set to warm up after a day of exploring.

Each hut has a fold down double bed which cleverly converts to a dining area, and fold down bunk beds (children only) with comfy bedding and fluffy towels provided.  The huts are fully heated, and have electric sockets with USB plugs, TVs and DVD players.

Food and Drink

A welcome pack of all the essentials and one of Katie’s scrummy homemade treats will be ready for you on arrival. Outside your hut you can barbeque on the firepit, or simply toast marshmallows on the glowing charcoals.Tesco, ASDA and Morrisons all deliver to the site.

There are some fab farm shops within a 30 minute drive, and some great cafes in the surrounding villages and Dunfermline (10 minutes away), where you’ll also find lots of restaurants and pubs.

Activities

Start the day with a morning nod to your woolly neighbours - the sheep love to roam around and get to know their new friends! Then visit the hens, which you are welcome to feed. Collect fresh eggs for breakfast, or cook up a mud pie in the mud kitchen (probably best not to eat it though!).

Spend time unwinding with bug hunts, den building and bird watching (pack your binoculars), and the owners children are always excited to proudly provide tours of their farm, show you the ropes of playing on the hay bales and helping you feed the animals.

Craigluscar Activities offer a range of outdoor experiences including tractor driving, mini Highland Games, hovercrafting and clay pigeon shooting and are only a 10 minute drive. Balmule Fishery is a 5 minute drive and is a trout fishery with a seperate kids fun pool.

Townhill Loch is the home of Waterboard and Waterski Scotland if you fancy trying something different.  There is a lovely walk around the loch and The Loch Cafe offers a welcome refreshment with a lovely view.

On rainy days The Ceramic Cafe in Dunfermline has a small soft play area and a range of ceramics for all ages to paint - great to take home as gifts. Deep Sea World at South Queensferry is all under cover and a great trip beneath the sea to meet all creatures great and small.

Kids and Parents

The owners and their children often have visitors from local nurseries and schools, so are very well versed in helping you and your children explore rural life, whether that’s farming or playful adventures. Highchairs and bathroom stools are available on request.

Take a few DVDs for the children if you fancy a little quiet time by the firepit. And don’t forget wellies and walking boots for exploring the wonderful area - and for splashing about at The Falkirk Wheel!

The Owners

Katie & family

“Our traditional family beef and sheep farm has been farmed by the Roberts family since 1968.  We are passionate about farming and the countryside and feel very lucky to have such a wonderful setting to bring up our two boys.  We want to share this with you and let you make your own wonderful memories.”
