The Park, Cornwall

Child friendly glamping, Cornwall – Mawgan Porth, Cornwall

About The Park, Cornwall

Superlative overload - just go!

If you are looking for a tasteful place with a fantastic range of fantastic accommodation in a fantastic location with fantastic facilities then you must take yourself to The Park at Mawgan Porth in Cornwall. Eco-lodges, yurts, caravans, cottages and houses - I could go on and on but won't - have a look and book and experience for your-self - you will not be disappointed!

Driving along one day in Cornwall I screeched to a halt as I drove past the sign-post for The Park at Mawgan Porth.  I'd read lots about the place and loved their images and so made a call and finally spoke to the PR bloke who said "Of course pop in and take a look around".  I did.

My experience began meeting the staff who clearly love the place. I was given a tour around the site comprising the wonderful cafe serving excellent food (of course I tried it!), the indoor pool, the play areas and the amazing array of accommodation that those at Mawgan Porth call simple - I call it elegant, tasteful and luxurious - oh and practical - no surplus trinkets to be trashed here!

At the risk of going on the atmosphere of the place pulls you in - it's incredibly laid back, it feels like a members club and once you're in the know you may not want to share!

What's it all about?

Nestled in 27 acres of beautiful gardens and with its own conservation area, The Park offers not only wonderful cottages and lodges, but swimming pools, play areas and activities for kids, plus relaxing spa options and on-site restaurant.

The family-friendly ethos here mixes perfectly with grown-up luxury, with a sauna and steam room, a sun deck that’s perfect for some rest and relaxation in the warmer weather, and private hot-tubs in some of the properties. To top it off, just a short 300 yard stroll away you’ll find the peaceful Mawgan Porth beach.

The Park is truly dog-friendly too, with many of the properties providing dog bowls, goodie bags and enclosed gardens, as well as on-site dog showers for a rinsing off those muddy paws.

The Properties

Choose from cosy cottages, contemporary lodges or a luxury holiday home - all with fully equipped kitchens, comfy beds with linen and towels provided. Whether you’re after a hot tub and log fire for some downtime, or outdoor space and pet-friendly accommodation, for small or large families you’ll find something here to fit the bill.

Cottages sleep up to 4, and are stylishly furnished throughout, with well-equipped kitchens, TVs with freeview and some with DVD player. Many include a master en-suite, and you’ll have an outdoor seating area, some with private hot tubs.

Luxury lodges sleep from 2-12 so are well suited to both small families and larger groups. Contemporary kitchens, modern bathrooms and simple yet homely furnishings make these a great option for a family stay. Again some lodges are pet friendly and some have private hot tubs.

Lanerick House is a detached luxury holiday home sleeping up to 6 with comfortable living spaces, large private garden with fire pit, hot tub and roof terrace.

Food and Drink

All of the cottages and lodges have well-equipped kitchens for family meals at home, and you can pre-book a supermarket delivery. For time away for the kitchen then the on-site restaurant “The Kitchen” provides fantastic food all day, from breakfast, via a coffee and slice of cake after a swim, to lunch or dinner from the main menu. You can also order picnics for days out. There is a pool bar offering ice-cold drinks so you can chill out next to the outdoor pool.

There are a number of tea rooms pubs and restaurants in nearby Mawgan Porth and the surrounding area. Padstow is only a 20 minute drive away and is a bit of a foodie mecca. You’ll be spoilt for choice with, amongst others, Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant and fish and chip restaurant, as well as  Michelin-starred Paul Ainsworth at No.6.

Activities

In summer the heated outdoor pool is naturally the biggest hit with families, but year round the indoor pool is open for swimming and family fun. Toddlers and children are well catered for with indoor and outdoor play areas, a giant trampoline and the conservation area to let off some steam or look out for rabbits, foxes and even badgers.  And of course you have access to the wonderful beach.

Kids and family activities such as den building, foraging and organised sports are run during school holidays. For quieter moments then head to the play yurt, packed with soft play equipment and toys, or borrow a DVD from the library.

Make sure you visit the resident goats and chickens- you can even collect your own eggs, and look out for The Park’s painted pebbles on site - a prize awaits for those that find all 10 and it’s a great way to get the kids exploring the outdoors.

Horticulturalists and nature lovers should make time for a tranquil stroll around the gardens to spot ancient Cedars, Yuccas, passion flowers, beehives, hedgehog hotels and more. If you’re taking your four-legged family members be sure to ask about the many dog-friendly beaches and pubs in the area.

Mawgan Porth beach is a wonderful natural playground where you can while away the days building sandcastles, exploring rock pools, playing in the surf or walking along the coast.

For families who want a little more adventure then The Eden Project is only 35 minutes away, and is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts as well as thrill seekers who’ll love the zip wire, adventure activities and canopy walkways. The Camel Trail is perfect for family bike rides, and Padstow makes the perfect start or end point, or head to Newquay Harbour for a fishing trip  - most trips provide bait and tackle and you get to keep what you catch!

Old Macdonald’s is lovely to visit with younger children - only 10 minutes away and children can meet resident animals from piglets to alpacas, as well as enjoy rides and treats from the cafe.

Cots, high-chairs, fold-out beds, childs buggy and bed guards can all be arranged, free of charge, to be waiting for you in your cottage or lodge on arrival. The Park can arrange babysitting for you if your keen on a kid-free night and during school holidays The Park offer a programme of kids activities that the whole family can share in.
