Listed since June 2009

In 2006, we discovered an escape from the city and a chance to offer a bit of what we love - a great place to stay, a warm, professional welcome and an environmentally friendly lifestyle. We encourage visitors to make maximum use of their legs and minimum use of their cars and it’s brilliant to see them enjoying the stunning surroundings and all the huge range of activities and sites the Peak District has to offer. We have 2 dogs - one that we adopted as a puppy, Bernie and one that adopted us, Mister (who turned up at our door), and have been joined by hens, ducks, rabbits, and lambs and most recently by three rather exotic alpacas. We look forward to welcoming you to Wheeldon Trees.

Tips from the owners

Local things to do, places to eat and attractions not to be missed.

  • Perfectly located, everywhere in the Peak District is within easy reach...

  • Chatsworth House – the Farmyard and Playground have loads of opportunities to hold animals, learn about milking and explore the fabulous sand and water based playgrounds.

  • The Peak Wildlife Park is worth a visit for all those budding David Attenboroughs.

  • Tagg Lane Dairy – to die for Jersey ice cream on the doorstep.

  • Plenty of Walks from the doorstep - High Wheeldon is a short, steep climb up from the cottages (baby carriers essential – and there’s one available to borrow) but you are rewarded by spectacular views of the Peak District when you get to the top.

  • Cycling Trails. The traffic free cycling paths of the High Peak Trail and Tissington Trail are nearby.

  • Take a trip back in time and ride vintage trams into the open countryside at Crich Tramway Village. There's also an enchanting Woodland Walk and Sculpture Trail, Tearoom, gift shop and children's play areas.

  • Visit The Heights of Abraham where you can take a spectacular cable car ride up to 60 acres of landscaped grounds, multi-media exhibitions, Masson Pavilion Film Theatre, adventure playgrounds, woodland walks, and two famous show caverns.
