Rooms

The contemporary self-catering holiday cottages have sleek, open plan kitchens, and super comfy living and dining spaces with digital TVs and iPod connectivity. Soft furnishings are extremely elegant, bathrooms are luxurious, while log burners and private terraces make them perfect boltholes whatever the season.

The feel is a wonderful combo of pared down English country cottage with a chic, scandi touch. The cottages have been thoughtfully designed for families with young children with stair gates, travel cots, high chairs and kid's tableware provided. Bed guards and booster seats are also available on request.

Eat

The owners pride themselves on the quality of the kitchens at Gitcombe, and all are excellently equipped for family meal prep. Food deliveries can be booked from supermarkets and local shops and producers, or for some real luxury Gitcombe can recommend private chefs to cook for you in your cottage.

Away from the estate you’ll find pubs within walking distance, as well as an array of eateries including vegan cafes, seafood restaurants, fine dining restaurants, and of course tea rooms for a traditional Devon cream tea. Remember, when in Devon the clotted cream goes on first!

Activities

Whether you want to relax in the sauna, or challenge your children to a game of tennis, there’s something for everyone at Gitcombe. As well as the swimming pools you’ll find a boules court, table football, indoor soft play area and a beautiful hand-carved wooden adventure playground to explore.

The estate grounds are a haven for animals and wildflowers with plenty of perfect picnic spots. Further afield you’ll be spoilt for choice with beaches, coastal towns, walks, boutique shops, surf schools, sailing schools adventure parks, gardens, historic houses and more.

Accessibility

Gitcombe Retreat (see separate listing) offers full accommodation at ground floor, entry level, in the form of a double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. It has an accessible bathroom with wheelchair access to the shower and chair.

Exeter airport is a one hour drive from Gitcombe.

The nearest station is Totnes, a 12 minute taxi drive from Gitcombe.

We moved here in October 2013 and are delighted to be living in such a beautiful part of the world. We may be biased, but we think this area, known as the South Hams, is the best bit of Devon! Guests often tell us that they run out of time to fit everything in and need a return visit. Party on The Picnic Boat along the river Dart – don’t forget your waterproofs!
Older children and adults will enjoy the high ropes at Go Ape in Haldon Forest.
Catch crabs on Dittisham Bay – pick up your crabbing lines from the toy store on the estate before heading out.
Equine enthusiasts will love Cheston Farm for pony rides, riding lessons and moor and beach riding.
Head to Totnes, Dartmouth or Salcombe to indulge in a spot of retail therapy followed by a decadent Devon cream tea.
Woodlands Adventure Park is the largest in Devon, and has water rides, indoor play and a zoo farm.
