Located on the cusp of the Peak District National Park, Knockerdown Cottages offers guests the chance to slow down and indulge in the peace and tranquility of country life. The beauty and adventure of the Peaks is always compelling; but there’s a brilliant array of on-site facilities and nearby family attractions to keep little ones content and entertained too. The fantastic heated indoor swimming pool is great fun year round– but is especially fun when rainy days puts a stop to outdoor adventures.
Hours of entertainment can be had in the light and airy games room, complete with table tennis and a pool table.
Pets are as welcome as you are. Dog-friendly cottages are available, and there’s a tonne of space for them to enjoy.

Top tips

Cottages with a view are available–and nothing beats waking up and looking out over rolling hills and lush countryside.
Pack your wet weather walking gear so a little rain and wind can’t dampen your adventurous spirit.
Family swimming slots are available throughout the day, and every day except Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

The gorgeous red-brick Knockerdown Cottages are a brilliant choice for families of all sizes. There are one bedroom properties, through to large five bedroom properties, all beautifully appointed and immaculately presented. Alongside a well equipped kitchen, guests will enjoy cosy living spaces with sofas, a TV, DVD player and radio.

The bedrooms are bright and comfortable, some boasting original features and views of greenery and fields. Fluffy towels and bedding are provided throughout, with cots available on request for little ones. Master bedrooms also have their own TVs, so you and the kids can snuggle up for a film and popcorn on rainy evenings. Each cottage has at least one bathroom–contemporary in design and totally spotless.

Eat

All the self-catering cottages have full equipped kitchens and dining areas to ensure home cooking is easy and you can pack light. There’s outdoor furniture too–so you can make the most of the gorgeous gardens and eat al fresco whenever the weather allows it. There’s not much better than an evening meal under the stars.

Or take a night off and head to one of the brilliant family pubs in the local area. The Knockerdown Inn can be found just across the road. It has the tastiest pub grub, a special kids menu, friendly atmosphere and an adventure playground. Alternatively, take it easy at home with a takeaway delivered straight to your door.

Activities

There are a tonne of activities to do on-site, with an indoor heated pool, games room, outdoor play area and the large meadow that works perfectly as a football, cricket or rounders pitch. For adults and teens, indulge in a treatment in the spa rooms. Massages, facials, pedicures–bliss. But of course, the biggest draw to Knockerdown is it’s location and the ease of access to some of the best walks in the Peaks. Try The Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks, Thor’s Cave or Dovedale and it’s magical stepping stones.

Away from your cottage you’ll also find picturesque towns and villages, historic country houses, limestone caverns and the gorgeous landscapes of the Derbyshire Dales. You can hire bicycles and explore the cycle trails, hike the hills and partake in adventurous activities. Nearby Carsington Water has watersports aplenty–get your wetsuit packed and ready!

Accessibility

Knockerdown Cottages are not classified as disability friendly, but the staff are accommodating and happy to discuss requirements. Some of the cottages feature wide doors and ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms, so may well fit to guests needs.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

The cottages are located between the A6 and the A52. Just off the B5035 to Carsington Water.

By Air

East Midlands Airport is around 45 minutes from Knockerdown Cottages, and has international and domestic flights.

By Rail

The closest train stations are Cromford or Derby, you can grab a taxi to the cottages from both.

We have a small dedicated team who live and work on site or very close by. The team has operated the site for a significant number of years and add the personal touch to every stay–there's always a happy face here. We adore the Peak District and everything it has to offer.

Owner recommendations

Head to Wild Park Leisure for several thrilling outdoor activities including paintballing, archery and quad biking.
Matlock Bath is one of the country's first tourist destinations, full of character and charm, it’s worth a visit.
Carsington Water park is a must. Be sure to book onto some of their watersports lessons, a memorable experience for you and the kids.
Heights of Abraham is a hilltop park reached by cable car (very exciting!), with cavern tours, walking trails, fossil exhibitions and a lovely cafe.
Dovedale is a National Nature Reserve managed by the National Trust. The River Dove flows through this limestone valley and is home to the famous stepping stones. From the stepping stones it's possible to hike to the top of Thorpe Cloud with stunning vistas once you’re at the top.
Alton Towers is only half an hour away with its infamous roller coasters and rides. It’s a popular option for overcast or slightly grey days when queues are shorter and a hike up a cloudy hill may not appeal.
