About this place

Best bits

  • The fabulous setting. Situated between Exmoor and the sea, it’s the perfect place to be based when exploring award-winning beaches, dramatic moorland and charming harbour towns.
  • The gardens and surrounding fields are beautiful places to play, full of wildlife, great hide and seek spots and truly spectacular views.
  • Wild camping options are available if your children, or you, fancy sleeping under canvas for a night – with the fire pit lit to keep you warm and toasted marshmallows in constant supply.

Top tips

  • Barbecues, children's tents, outdoor and indoor games, beach windbreaks and more are available to borrow or hire.
  • A communal laundry room means you can pack light, safe in the knowledge that a load of sandy, muddy, mucky kids clothes can be chucked in the wash if needed.
  • On a hot day, try the local woodland walks with shady pools and waterfalls offering a refreshing wild dip.

Owner recommendations

  • Spend a day exploring Valley of Rocks and the local beach at Lee Bay. Clamber over the amazing terrain and see the wild goats then have fun on the lovely beach with a mixture of sand and pebbles and fun places to explore.

  • The walk to Heddon Mouth from Hunters Inn is only a mile each way but has spectacular scenery from lovely rocky streams to scree slopes and a beautiful pebbly cove with an old lime kiln at the end. This is a special interest place for butterflies and even otters if you are lucky enough to see them. Hunters Inn is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal with peacocks roaming the terrace and fun gardens in which children can play.

  • Woolacombe Sands is an international surf reserve with 3 miles of golden sand and crystal-clear water. why not take a picnic and a bach tent for a perfect family day out.

  • For a fun lunch, that’s sure to be a hit with little guests, try the local goat cafe, just a short meander down the road at Caffyns Cafe.
