Three cottages have downstairs bedrooms and walk-in (one step up) large showers. The gardens and grounds are on sloping ground, some paths are smooth, other walkways are somewhat bumpy. The paths to the animal houses are sloping but smooth.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By rail

The nearest train station is Umberleigh -the driver must be asked to stop there.

By road

Torridge House Cottages are just off the A386 between Torrington and Merton.

By air

Exeter airport is around an hour's drive from the cottages.

About the owners


Discovering Torridge House by chance we knew that in finding this very special place, that we had come home. That was 32 years ago. This was our dream, and it still is.

Tips from the owners

Local things to do, places to eat and attractions not to be missed.

  • Get out and about on The Tarka Trail - a 180 mile long cycle and walking route which passes close to Little Torrington.

  • A trip to one of the sandy beaches is a must - enjoy the old fashioned delights of the ferry across the Torridge estuary and head to Appledore for the best crabbing.

  • RHS Rosemoor Gardens is very nearby and is a wonderful place to visit.

  • The Big Sheep has loads of existing rides and attractions for all the family including a rollercoaster, animals, brewery and gin distillery.

  • Head next door to the Tarka Pottery and have a go at throwing on the potters wheel, or painting & glazing.
