About Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel, Windermere
The quality of the food served for the children was to the same superb standard as the parents. The staff were impeccable and bent over backwards to ensure the kids were happy. We all enjoyed our stay at a truly family friendly hotel.
Set in the heart of the Lake District, Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel has space for families of all ages to relax and unwind or to enjoy an exciting choice of energetic activities, with a choice of restaurants and bars, a Leisure Club, Beauty Salon and its own Lakeside Water Sports Centre. With a breathtaking lakeshore setting and lawns leading down to Windermere’s edge, Low Wood Bay provides one of the finest views in the Lakes. The hotel’s Langdale Lounge and Bar offer a chic interior that takes informal dining to refreshing heights, sleek and elegant and designed to impress. Imagine a place that has all this and is warmly welcoming of children all ages. Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel is a real gem of a find for a child friendly break where the management recognises that there is no need to compromise on style, comfort or service for family travel. We had such an excellent stay, it's an amazing place to take the kids and explore the Lakes.
Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel is a family friendly hotel that excels in hospitality and has fantastic leisure facilities with the added bonus of its own watersports centre. Found nestled on the northern edge of Windermere Lake close to both Ambleside and Windermere village it boasts a glorious lakeside setting with fantastic views across the lake, marina and the majestic Langdale range beyond. With a wide variety of activities and places to visit, not forgetting the numerous nearby award winning attractions Low Wood Hotel is a perfect base for families to relax and discover the beauty of the Lakes.
We stayed in a courtyard room boasting a huge comfortable bed with bathroom complete with complimentary toiletries, and an interconnecting second room where our 3 children had their own space with a twin bed and additional bed was the ideal layout for us. The children all received a welcome Sam's Club goody bag which kept them quiet while we grabbed a cuppa and unpacked bags. Sam is a big cuddly dog who organises activities for children aged 5-10 in the school holidays. A cuddly toy Sam is left on the pillow in case children have forgotten to bring their own soft toy and is available to purchase should you wish to take it home as a memento (with half the cost going to charity!). Children can also register at reception where they are lucky enough to get a Sam's Club cap. If you bring a baby with you on your travels to Low Wood they also receive a special welcome baby pack in their cot with a handy supply of nappy and wipes.
Alternative family accommodation is available such as the spilt level family room, with lounge area (including sofa beds), TV, bathroom, etc. downstairs and upstairs to the bedroom with huge double bed and second TV. Or if you want to benefit from those lakeside views you can request a family room with a view.
All the public areas are superbly decorated and take advantage of those views across the lake. There are many nooks and crannies so that you have space to relax without feeling you are on top of other guests. We spent an enjoyable hour before dinner trying out the stash of board games and puzzles that are kept by the bar
Family Restaurants and Cafés
We ate in the Windermere Restaurant for both nights of our weekend break as the food was so good on the first night, the kids especially, wouldn't let us consider going elsewhere. I think they enjoyed the drama of the surroundings with the modern decor, large artworks, extensive wood panelling and chandeliers made it a rather special occasion. The attentiveness of the staff was exceptional and cushions were duly fetched to help raise the younger diners at our table. I was very impressed that the kid's food was presented with the same attention to detail as the a la carte menu and clean plates all round said it all!
A more informal dining experience is offered by the hotel's chic Langdale Lounge & Bar and the Café del Lago Bistro where Sam's "Eats and Treats" children's menu is also available. Children can enjoy creating their own pizza in the Café del Lago. There are plenty of movies for kids to watch in Café del Lago
Baby Listening Service
A baby listening service is available should you request it after the hours of 7pm and works by reception listening in over the phone line and reporting on any disturbances
The indoor swimming pool is a popular choice with families and there are particular times of the day whereby children's fun play sessions are enhanced with large pool inflatables and pool toys. To leave children at splash time they must be 5 years old or older and be an able swimmer. Children are allowed in the pool from 8.30 am until 8.00 pm but it is good to note for parents wanting an early morning or late evening dip that you are able to enjoy your swim in a child free pool. There is also a hot tub located outside, if you can bear the elements getting to it, once submerged it is actually very relaxing.
There is a squash court available should you wish to exert some energy or the fully equipped adult gym as well as a dance studio. However if you have come to Low Wood to relax and wind down then book yourself a treatment at the beauty salon.
