This cluster of traditional French stone gites sits in a small hamlet in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of South West France. Les Vallaies’ idyllic, rural location is a beautiful, peaceful and safe haven for memorable family holidays. Many guests return year in, year out.

Best bits

The large enclosed garden has swings, sandpit, trampoline and slide as well as lots of toys, so you can just sit back and relax.
The games barn has table tennis, table football, air hockey and mini snooker so your children have their own space to hang out and meet new friends.
There's both private and communal eating areas with barbecues and a wood burning pizza oven – great for socialising with the other families

Top tips

Families with older children will enjoy the pool side cottages, and parents of toddlers and younger children will love the garden cottages.
Sociable families will love the well-equipped gites, or if you'd like a little more privacy then go for Pavilion villa which has its own huge private garden.
Pack light in the knowledge that all of the baby and toddler equipment you could need is available to borrow.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa offers privacy whilst also offering the opportunity to socialise in the shared pool and garden areas. You and your children can also meet others and play at 'events' organised by Chris and Wendy – informal occasions that we went to include the vine walk, taste du terroir and teddy bears picnic.

Rooms

There are two garden side cottages, which may suit families with younger children. Baleine sleeps six in four bedrooms – a double, a twin and two singles, and has two bathrooms. Vierge sleeps six in three bedrooms – a double and two twin, and has one bathroom.

The two poolside cottages will be idea for families with older children. Cassiopee sleeps six in three bedrooms – a double and two twin, and has one bathroom. Cygne sleeps six in three bedrooms – a double and two twin, with one bathroom. Pavillon Villa is set slightly apart from the other properties and sleeps six in three bedrooms – a double and two twins. There is one bathroom. All the cottages are equipped with high chair, booster seat, plastic crockery cutlery and a hand blender to make purees. In addition the cottages have a bath with non slip mat, potty, toilet trainer seat, toddler step, stair barriers, travel cot with mattress and change mat as standard. On request and free of charge are bed guards, steriliser, baby bath, baby bath seat, monitors, baby chair, baby play mat. The Villa and Cassiopee have a wooden cot.

Eat

All cottages at Les Vallaies are self-catering, with inside and outside dining tables, well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven, four ring gas hob, microwave, electric kettle, fridge freezer and all crockery and cutlery plus an outdoor charcoal BBQ.

Activities

Scuba diving lessons for kids and adults are held each week in the pool on-site. Join other guests at Les Vallaies’ sister site La Grange du Moulin for some fun family activities. These include pottery and fabric painting, family vine walks and discovery evenings and a honey visit.

Babysitting and mini creche services can be provided on site, giving you a breather and the chance to enjoy a meal out.

Where is it and how do you get there?

By Road

Take the ferry to St Malo (five hours drive) Caen, Cherbourg (both six hours drive) or Calais (eight hours drive).

By Air

Fly to La Rochelle (a one hour drive), Poitiers, Bordeaux (a 90 minute drive), Nantes or Limoges (two hour drive).

By Rail

Take the Eurotunnel across the Channel, then motorway (eight hours).

Wendy & Chris

After many years of holidaying in this area staying in my parents holiday home, we finally moved here in 1996. We haven't looked back. After a number of years renovating stone barns into family gites, learning how to look after our guests and drinking many glasses of wine with them, and then having two children of our own as well as becoming a registered child minder, we now feel very confident in our ability to offer just what young families really need from a holiday here in France. We have over 27 years of experience running at least 11 holiday cottages and have literally hundreds of great reviews and many return year after year.
