The Away with the Kids review
Each of the immaculately presented tents are best described as canvas wrapped retreats and sleep up to 6 in 3 bedrooms - 1 king, 1 twin and 1 bunk room. Travel cots can also fit into the king and bunk rooms. Real beds with comfy mattresses are made up for you on arrival. Solid decking floors run throughout. There’s no need to do the toilet trek in the middle of the night as each tent has it’s own shower and wc. Bath towels are also provided for you.
The open plan living area includes a wood burner for heat and cooking, as well as a hob, sink and 2 cold box chests (freezer packs are available free of charge and can be replaced as necessary). Kitchen utensils, pots, pans, glasses, mugs, cutlery and tea towels are also included.
Gather round the dining table for a game of cards, snuggle up on the sofas or relax on the terrace at the front of the tent which is equipped with comfortable furniture, great for whiling away an evening over campfire marshmallows. Firepits, BBQ and unlimited wood are also included in the price.
The on-site honesty shop, situated in the Old Potting Shed, has essential items for purchase. You can also order breakfast packs, BBQ packs, Campfire packs (think s’mores and sticky bananas!) and celebration packs (with wine and flowers) to make your stay even easier.
Travel cots are available for hire and high chairs are free of charge. Fire guards are also available should you require one.
Ball games are permitted in designated areas so there’s plenty of opportunity to get outside and explore, and within the grounds of the estate there is a walled garden, ornamental lake, gothic folly, and footpaths and bridleways to discover.
Places to visit
The estate is within easy reach of Oakham, Stamford, Leicester, Peterborough and Nottingham. A few miles away you’ll find Rutland Water where you can take part in watersports, birdwatching, cycling, or take a leisurely lake cruise on the Rutland Belle.
Rock climbing, fishing, golf, and numerous National trust and English Heritage sites are all nearby for great days out.
